Now that the FIA World Rallycross Championship season has started, we’re moving with good speed from one event to another. We’re staying at the Iberian peninsula for the next round, but moving to a different country: Portugal.

In the opener in Barcelona, it may seem that we’re continuing where we left off in 2017 with a win to Johan Kristoffersson. It wasn’t without controversy though, as Mattias Ekström was the first to cross the finish line in the final, but were later disqualifyed after Turn 1 contact with Petter Solberg. Solberg had finished as top qualifier, but were forced into the tire barriers by Ekström and could only get 1 point from the final. Sebastien Loeb qualified 13th, but team tactics allowed him to take part in the semifinals, and due to a number of fortunate events he ends up second with Andreas Bakkerud following in third.

In our fantasy game a lot of players had bad luck picking Thomas Bryntesson, who finished without points. 5 players were able to get a score above 100, with AntMic taking the first win of the year. There is still a long way to go though, and the series looks more unpredictable than last year.

Montalegre is one of the tracks that has always been part of WorldRX, and is especially popular among the drivers. It has a long tarmac straight with the joker split at the end, meaning different braking points depending on where you’re going. The joker merge includes a high-speed entry into the next corner, and we usually see passes here. The sweeping gravel corners usually favors precise drivers, and we’ve previously seen wins from Petter Solberg, Mattias Ekström and Johan Kristoffersson here.

Joining the WorldRX field in Portugal are the local drivers Joaquim Santos and Mario Barbosa. Santos has driven this event every year without reaching the semifinals, and Barbosa scored three points in his 2015 entry. Ma Quingha is on the entry list with STARD, and may make his debut after he couldn’t race in Barcelona due to VISA issues. Philippe Maloigne was also set to debut with G-FORS this weekend, but need to prepare for the French Championship instead.

In order to enter Fantasy WorldRX, post your top 6 drivers in the comments section. You may only pick one driver from each team. All the drivers available to pick is listed below, and the deadline is the start of Q1 saturday morning European time. All the rules, teams and other information are further described in the link below:
