I was hoping I’d at least make it to Mexico before I was late with a preview post, but my Takata airbag had other ideas. Anyway, here we go.

This year’s Rally Sweden, known for it’s mind bending speeds on ice and snow, may potentially be the last Rally Sweden (if it even happens). Global warming has, once again, produced a lack of the ice and snow required for the event. The event schedule has already been shortened to just three proper stages on Friday and Saturday, and the race distance will barely clear 100 miles. By comparison, last year’s event was 90 miles longer than this year’s, and there’s still a chance to lose even more stages. All eyes will be on the weather forecast. If it ends up being too warm and there’s a risk of the studs on the tires turning the stages to mush more stages or even the event as a whole could be cancelled.

The weather makes picking a favorite for the event difficult as well. If snow comes drivers further back will have the advantage via road cleaning. If, however, the ice is clear the drivers at the front will have the edge as it will be more torn up for the drivers further back. Who will have the ideal road position? Neuville up front? Tanak in the back? Lappi in the middle? In the words of Scott Weiland, “I feel so much depends on the weather.” Good luck.

Here’s the current fantasy points spreadsheet. And while you’re at it, you can also look at the driver’s data and statistics here.
