This upcoming weekend we’re expecting huge crowds and huge car numbers, as the FIA World Rallycross Championship returns to Loheac, France and the track that is often called the temple of rallycross.

After a couple of rounds in Scandinavia the championship has entered a rather French period, with rounds in Canada and France. In Canada we saw the regular full-season entries battle out for points, with Petter Solberg regaining his lead after winning qualifying, Timmy Hansen redeeming his bad season start with a win (after the stewards robbed Timur Timerzyanov for a spot in the final and gave it to Hansen) and Andreas Bakkerud getting another podium. Consistent point scorer Johan Kristoffersson took his first podium this year, while Loeb, Ekström and Heikkinen also scored good points.

In our little fantasy game the Dutch Engineer took his first win, not surprising considering rallycross has a significant place in the flat country. Several lower placed competitors scored good points, while me and GiuRX failed to build on our lead. Still lots to play for even if the season is well underway.

Loheac might not have the jumps of Höljes or the height difference of Hell, but the track has a mixture of tight and sweeping corners and a very interesting joker. Several parts of the track has an ideal line with concrete surfacing surrounded by gravel, making precision key to success here. There’s still ways to pass on this track though, so things are not just about getting a good start here.

Rallycross is big in France, and they have a healthy national championship with a lot of supercars. This is reflected in a large entry with a lot of local drivers, but we also see more international entries than usual. Joining Kristoffersson and Volkswagen RX Sweden is JWRC regular Ole Christian Veiby, who also raced in EuroRX last year. Team owner Max Pucher joins in a third car in WorldRX Team Austria, and Davy Jeanney and Kevin Hansen is back in Team Peugeot-Hansen. In OlsbergsMSE Yann Le Jossec replaces Kevin Eriksson, as the Swede will enter Scandinavian RallyX instead as a bid to secure a championship win.

EuroRX regulars Albatec Racing enter with three cars, with Andy Scott, current European Champion Tommy Rustad and French Championship regular Philippe Maloigne. In JRM Racing Guerlain Chicherit enters his first round of three this year. The French former rally driver initially wanted to do a full season, but opted to wait for the new 2-litre custom engine. A replacement for Liam Doran is not announced yet. Also entering with two cars is rallycross veteran Herve “Knapick” Lemonnier, joined by Trophee Andros regular Jean-Phillipe Dayraut.

Notable single car entries include EuroRX regular Fredrik Salsten in an ex-Peugeot Hansen 208, Jean Baptiste Dubourg in his new DS3 and Neerijus Naujokaitis in a brand new Skoda Fabia supercar. He has ambitions of a full season next year, so watch out for the Lithuanian with experience from Rallycross Challenge Europe among other minor series.
