The FIA World Rallycross Championship rushes further into the season with another round this weekend. The teams travel from Germany to Belgium where Francois Duval has challenged the rallycross elite in what is as close to his backyard as possible.
That will probably not pose much of a concern for the WorldRX crews though, as most of them are probably asking who can possibly beat Mattias Ekström!?!? The current World Champion took his third win in a row at Hockenheim and leads the championship with 85 points out of 90 possible. Johan Kristoffersson took 2nd and only lost two points to Ekström in the championship, while Timmy Hansen was third. Petter Solberg might have been closer if not for some bad luck in qualifying, but is still third in the championship.
In our fantasy league GiuRX took a much needed win, while TurbochargedSquirrel is our Mattias Ekström and extended his overall lead. Things are still very even, and since we drop the 4 worst scores from each player at the end of the season you can still win if you join now! Our Dutch Engineer will most likely benefit from that as his Hockenheim score is lower due to picks published after Q2.
Now on to Belgium! This track has been ever-present on the WorldRX calendar, and only drivers in the EKSRX team has won here. It was constructed before the 2014 season, but features height differences and nice variation between high and low speed corners. The first corners usually provide some carnage as well, so clever drivers with a quick reaction usually benefit on this track.
Length: 1149 m
Lap Record: 00:38.416 (Mattias Ekström)
Previous Winners: Mattias Ekström (2016), Topi Heikkinen (2014, 2015)
In addition to the regular drivers and the wildcards we know from Montalegre and Hockenheim we find former WRC-driver Francois Duval in a Albatec Peugeot 208. Perhaps not as competetive as the cars he has used here before, but should be quick enough to have a shot at a semifinal spot. EuroRX regular Tamas Karai also shows up in his Audi A1, at least providing the Mettet crowd with some good noise and spectacular driving if not scoring any points.
The rules for participating in Fantasy WorldRX are simple. You pick six drivers from the entry list below and post them in the comments before the racing starts Saturday. You may only pick one driver from each team. If your drivers score points in the same order as in your picks, you get an additional 10 points. If you want to do an in-depth analysis before picking, consult the WorldRX stats spreadsheet. You find all the supercar entries below.
We are back to the usual schedule this weekend, so to follow the round from Mettet, tune in Sunday at 14:00 CEST on their YouTube site or the TV Channel broadcasting in your country.
