Well the 2015 Canadian Rally Championship got off to an entertaining start in Maniwaki, Quebec with the Rallye Perce-Neige! It was a frosty start to the 50th anniversary of the race with cold weather and snow dominating the weekend, and a familiar face atop the podium.

Antoine L'Estage was the first out of the gate and went on to win the first four stages. During the fifth stage L'Estage had a flat tire and ended up finishing fifteenth on a stage won by Frank Sprongl in a 2000 Mitsubishi Evo 6. Sprongl also won the 16km eighth stage, and had finished in the top 5 of all the stages until DNF on the tenth stage took him out of the race. Sprongl won this rally back in 1995 and in 1999 in an awesome Audi Quattro. It was great to see this veteran and six time Canadian Rally champion out and still doing well!

With all the the other stages won by L'Estage he cruised to the rally victory in his new Subaru STI from Subaru Canada. Sylvain Vincent/Dominique Cyr finished second overall in the rally, with Karel Carré/Philippe Poirier finishing third overall. Simon Dubé/Eric Lachance finished first in the 2WD category with a very impressive 6th overall in their 1990 VW Golf. Eight of the twenty-nine racers failed to make the finish mostly with mechanical issues.

Some interesting stories from the race include Sylvain Erickson racing with his daughter Chloé Erickson in a Hyundai Accent. This car could be called a Hyundai Evo since the car has had a full drivetrain swap that basically makes it an Evo is a small package.

We had lots of Oppo's in attendance and even one of the participants finding his way to Oppositelock pre-race! Zipppy, Sparkless Ignition, WhiskeyGolf, and thebigbossyboss all made the trek from Ottawa to watch the race and provide us with some of the pictures and video. Hubert helped me with some info in my pre-race primer and even found a picture of their car in the post race photos from Zipppy! Hope to see him around again and thanks to all the Oppo's who provided media!

The next rally in the Canadian Rally Championship is Rallye Baie-des-Chaleurs in New Richmond, Quebec June 27, 28.

Enough from me! Enjoy other media of the event!
