The second leg of the Canadian Rally Championship (CRC) kicks off this weekend in New Richmond, Quebec. Rallye Baie Des Chaleurs runs through the Gaspe Peninsula with a total of 515km of rally fun! All the favourites are back and some interesting teams are ready to push it to the limits.

With rain in the schedule up until the race weekend it is likely to be a bit muddy which will lead to some sideways, dirt throwing fun! There is 15 special stages with about 230km of racing along with the shuttling that will mean there is a grand total of 515km driven. There will be several night stages which are always a fan favourite and provide a new challenge for the drivers. This rally is known for something else too, pretty big jumps. This highlight video from the CRC’s Youtube Channel shows some of the action from last years rally.

The entry list has several familar names to Canadian rally fans. Antoine L’Estage and Alan Okwell hope to keep rolling after their victory at Rallye Perce Niege. The rest of the field hope to dethrone the champ, or at least, keep pace with him. L’Estage’s 2015 WRX STI from Rally Team Subaru Canada is likely even more dialled in after some testing/racing done by the team at Rally Olympus in Washington State.

Second place finisher in Rally Perce Niege Sylvain Vincent and Dominique Cyr will try to push towards the top of the leaderboard again in their ‘94 Impreza while holding off third place finishers Karel Carré and Philippe Poirier in their ‘04 STI. These two teams finished only a minute apart in the first event of the CRC so it should be a battle to watch. The starting grid includes some other stand out teams including “The Beast” pilots Alexandre Béland and Lyne Murphy as well as Joël Levac and Stéphanie Lewis in their WRC built (yes you read that right) Mini.

The field is full of the expected Lancers and WRX’s but some other cool entries are in the field. Namely a Mini Countryman WRC that is slated to take off third. A number of other privateers are running some awesome rides. Three seperate Golf’s are in the field, including Simon Dubé and Éric Lachance who finished a very strong 6th overall and top of the 2WD class. Two SRT4’s will be in the field hoping to shake things up as well. A rally veteran will be entering with a rally legend as Frank Lognay and his daughter Larissa Lognay enter in a 1983 Audi Quattro. Will be awesome to see this field out on the stages.

The 38th running of the Rallye Baie-Des-Chaleurs is sure to be an awesome affair. With some great drivers and awesome cars it should be a great race! Shaw Direct has partnered with the rally and hopefully the partnership means the rally will be shown. I will provide more info when I find it. Check back once the rally is complete to see my Results post along with some highlights of the race!
